Did I Make the right call?

Postby Evil Ash » Sat Apr 01, 2006 10:49 pm

Hello! I've been lurking the forums for a bit. I had been going through a slump, and then I read Nash's SnG guide and used it to tighted up my game. Somehow my game had gotten too passive and loose on me. Been going much better since!

Anyways, here's a hand I played, let me know what you think.

Ultimate Bet
No Limit Holdem $20 SnG game
Blinds: $30./$60.
5 players

Stack sizes:
HERO: $3305
CO: $4770
Button: $3175
SB: $1340
BB: $2410

Pre-flop: (5 players) HERO is UTG with [7c] [9c]
HERO calls $60 (pot was $90), CO raises to $120, 2 folds, BB calls $60 (pot was $270), HERO calls $60 (pot was $330).

Flop: [Tc] [8h] [3c] ($390, 3 players)
BB checks, HERO bets $200, CO raises to $650, BB folds, HERO calls $450 (pot was $1240).

Turn: [5d] ($1690, 2 players)
HERO checks, CO bets $1690, HERO calls $1690 (pot was $3380).

River: [Ac] ($5070, 2 players)
HERO is all-in $845, CO calls $845 (pot was $5915).

Results:
Final pot: $6760
HERO shows 7c 9c
CO shows Ks Kd

I've been playing tight all night, but not as aggressive as I'd like. The player at the CO is super aggressive and has stumped me most of the night.

I figured he either had an over pair or A 10. When he bet the pot I called it, knowing that's horrible pot odds, but figuring I've got a fair chunk invested. I knew it would leave me with a small stack to work with but the blinds were only 60 if the river gave me nothing. He must of been mad seeing me suck out like that, and I wasn't too impressed with it either, but I think it was a combo of likeing all my outs and wanting to get a big pot on him. Plus I remember reading in Phil Gordon's Little Green Poker Book, he said the bet the pot button is over used by players and cost them money, that was in the back of my head too.

He regained the lead on me later, but I finished first and he was second.

Anyways, what do you think? Decent risk with the outs or just a crappy call that got lucky?

if i was gonna play this hand, i would want to be more aggressive with it postflop. On the flop, i bet a little more, when he raises, i'm all in.

That being said, i fold this preflop for the limp.
