Turbos are basically a way for online poker sites to do two things:
(1) Maximize the rate at which they take fees from you
(2) Increase the role of luck, thus keeping losing players around longer.

As a winning player, you don't like either of those traits, so I do not recommend playing turbo SNGs.

However, if you were to play them, I would suggest playing ultra-tight early, and ALWAYS being the aggressor when it starts getting down to the money. Turbo forces people to play weaker hands, so a slightly-better-than-random hand preflop is good enough to push in with if your stack is 4x pot or less.

I don't think turbo's do force players to play weaker hands. They just think they have to...and it gets more turbo than it should. Overcompensation. You do loosen up later, but it's no different than any other SNG with the same blinds at any point.

That's my experience too. When I first tried them I thought they were a crapshoot and hated them.

Instead I realised that I had failed to adjust properly (along with almost everyone) and was panicking too early. I have made the necessary adjustments and now find that my ITM is as good as ever and my $$/hr way up - because to win the thing only takes 40 minutes max.

Another possibility is to play the 2 table Turbos- these still finish within the hour - but I find (unlike the 9 players ones) that you have to get lucky once usually to get ITM.

Well, I don't know about everyone else, but I'm sure convinced!

Good posts everyone. Turbo's aren't for me, but they certainly seem like a good, viable option. Just remember that your bankroll requirement goes up!

Turbos and Regular Sitngoes can both be fine options to make money in if you are a good player. That said, here are the key differences.

Since the turbos don't last nearly as long, you won't be playing as many hands. As a result, you won't have as much time to understand your opponents. This means that you are gonna have to rely on most textbook plays as opposed to playing the player. This isn't necessarily bad and can be a good thing as it prevents you from being in as many tough postflop situations. On a related note, you won't have as many chances to play a lot of hands past the flop. I imagine that among good players, most hands will end on the flop, with one guy taking it down with a bet or the other taking it down with a checkraise. If you like to take a lot of cheap flops with any playable hand as I do this probably isn't for you.

The advantage of turbos is that they end much quicker. In an hour you can probably play almost twice as many of them. Which means that even if your ROI is only half as big you will end up with the same amount of profit. This should make up for the increased amount of luck involved in the turbos.
