Returning to SNGs after a couple months of limit

Postby EscapePlan9 » Sat Oct 29, 2005 10:40 am

Lately the fish have been kicking my ass at limit and I've hit a major downswing. See these threads for more on that...

Now... back to SNGs. I played 8 SNGs on UB today and am very happy with the results! 50% ITM, 100+ ROI (three firsts and a second).

I don't think I made many mistakes in any of them. I was short-stacked and raised all-in with AK, got called by 77, and I lose. I was short-stacked and push with T8s on the BTN, got called by A9s and I lose. I raise with AK, the flop comes AQ2 rainbow. Fish min-bets and I raise to the pot, he calls. The turn is a 4, he checks and I bet the pot - putting me all-in. He calls... with 44! I can't believe he called a huge raise with 3rd best pair and then hit a 2-outter.

Ah well... I'm still happy with how I did overall. I put my money in either with the best hand, or put it in when the situation warranted it. Not much else I can do.

Anyhow... this post is mostly just to say... I will be participating in this forum more regularly now.

Let us know how it goes.

As an aside, it was a pleasure to run into you on the STT forum. I'm often on the lonely side of the arguments over there. I play a very different style, and since I don't play Party SNGs and that's almost the exclusive domain of the 2+2ers, there is usually a great degree of disagreement between us.

They spend enormous amounts of time and energy working on their preflop strategy, and virtually none at all on post-flop play. Push or fold, that's the extent of their strategy, whether they admit it or not. It's a winning formula for the pros over there, because they don't have time or the luxury of playing post-flop, when playing 10 tables on Party. Some make a lot of money, but they aren't playing the same game the rest are playing, at other sites and MTTs and cash games. I doubt they could, without seriously damaging their earning ability.

However, I could easily be wrong. They haven't proved it to me, yet, but I'm open to rational discussion. That seems harder to get than good advice on pushing. :)

Between you and me, maybe we can push our games to the highest levels. I hope so.

Best wishes,

CJ
