ROI difference between SNG's and MTT's?

Postby Devilbrat » Fri Aug 26, 2005 4:50 pm

I sort of have an idea that SNG's are a better investment of my time and energy then the MTT's would ever be. My concept of Roi would include time spent divided into the eventual prize minus the Buyin. The other thought I had was that you had to beat far fewer precentage of player's in an Sng to achieve a profit then in an MTT. I guess this post is more food for thought then anything else. I would like to know what the expected win % would be for a good MTT player. If I am rambling just ignore me...lol.
I haven't felt well all day and this is the sum of my thinking for the day...lmao

Interesting question. I think a good player will have a much much higher ROI at MTT's than SNG's. The variance is greater, but I think a good MTT could have a 100% ROI while this is probably impossible at SNGs. While it may be easier to cash in a SNG, it's harder to cash big. Also think of the EV of everyone in a SNG then think of their EV in a MTT. I think this should make it clear that a higher ROI is possible at MTT's. In terms of $/hr, I have no idea but would guss SNGs are better.

Welcome to the forum, David.

I think it's ridiculous to compare your SnG and MTT results. You're really trying to accomplish two different things. Like comparing a .340 on-base guy to a low-average slugger in baseball. Which is more valuable? Well, they both are in different ways and different situations.

In MTTs, you're trying to hit a home run. In SnGs, you're trying to string together a few hits.

God, that's a horrible analogy. Anyway, the point is that you build a bankroll with SnGs, but with MTTs you're going for a big score. So there's really no way to compare the results.

I think that's a pretty good analogy, fishy. I can see exactly what you mean. I wish I enjoyed playing MTTs more, but I'm not up for the length of a marathon, I guess. Hmm, maybe that's a good analogy, too. If you're a sprinter, you enter more races with more chances to win. Marathoners can't enter many races, but winning gets them a lot of glory. The effort to win either, however, is the same.
