Thank God for Sit and Gos

Postby ChipMagnet » Tue Aug 30, 2005 5:28 am

Greeting Sit and Go Experts!

I played Limit Hold’em cash games for about 18 months and did not like it. So I studied my butt off for the last 8 months learning how to play No Limit Hold’em cash games and find itprofitable, but boring.

So I played a a few Sit and Gos out of curiosity and this is exactly what the doctor ordered. The game has an ending. It has winners and losers. It satisfies my competitive nature. If I can make a second income playing SnGs it will be perfect.

I figured I just needed to do my research and find out the different strategies for the game. I have been a member of livepokerforum for eight months and did not know the SnG section existed. Went through the forum looking for short handed advice and saw this section.

I have an account on Ultimate Bet and I am going to take $50.00 and start playing the $1.00 SnGs. Nash I will give your system a through testing. Only stage one will be until the blinds become meaningful. I can already tell it is going take something for me to be as aggressive as you suggest in stage four, but $50.00 should give me at least 35 chances to see how effective your system really is.

Well I am looking forward to being an active member of this section and once again enjoying Poker like I did when I first started playing.

Greetings Chip. My favorite book on this subject is Tom McEvoy & TJ Cloutier's Championship NL HoldEm. See if you can get your hands on a copy. A blend of Tom and TJ's style will be helpful in SNGs.

Keep in mind that at the $1.10 SNG, you are playing the worst players on the planet, so if you have any skill at all in poker (sounds like you do), you should be fine. The gyst of Nash's strategy is that you can't be too tight early on (first 30 hands or so).

My motto in SNGs (and poker in general) is Patience=Profit.
Good, you?

I felt the same way whenI started playing SNG's, I love them. Make sure you track your finishes to monitor your success. Aug. was when I started reading the SNG forum and has been my best month yet.

To bad I've blown most of my winnings on WCOOP sattelites, but that is one of my reasons for playing.

Chip, it is important to keep track of your stats. I can send you a spreadsheet that I use if you send me your email address. Just throw it on the forum here this morning and then you can go back later and delete it.

You've got to temper your excitement about the $400 per week. Given the level your playing at $1.10s, that's virtually impossible. I am going to make a post about my current struggles adjusting to the $22s that might be worth looking at.

Also, I play for the same reasons. I'm an investment professional and I'm doing just fine. I do this for fun (except for the punishing variance)/fun money. Love the competition aspect.

You're welcome.

As most people will tell you, the ITM is important, but the ROI is the key number. Look at my ITM of 30% in the $22s and ROI of -32%. My long-term ITM is 45% and ROI is 17%. I have played 875 SNGs at the $5.50, $11 and $22 level. I have made about $1400 in profit in 6 months.

Ultimately, the higher limits you play, the more you will make if you are a winning player, but you will meet with more variance as you move up, as the skill level does improve at each level.
