Weekends vs. Weekdays

Postby kdiddy33 » Mon Sep 12, 2005 6:33 am

I tend to play a lot on the weekends and generally find myself floundering about, up and down, maybe making a little or losing a little. Its really kind of annoying. I tend to do really well during the week and then waste all this time on the weekend.

Friday night I hit a ridiculous patch were my aces got cracked twice in a row despite my significant preflop raises (which nobody respects after a few beers apparently). One idiot called with 3s and then hit a 3 on the flop. The other one called with 7s and fished it up with an OE straight draw which he hit on the turn despite not understanding pot odds.

Anyways, it seems like on the weekends, the fish grow Guiness flavored teeth and logic flies out the window. Either that, or I'm overplaying. I got a little tired of NLHE SNGs, so I played a bunch of PL O8 SNGs, which are very enjoyable, but its hilarious to see the NLHE guys sit down there and have no idea how to play. They start raising and re-raising like crazy preflop, which is completely insane. Its vintage fishing in these SNGs, because there are usually 5-6 people left before you hit 30/60 blinds!

It also happens in the WCOOP 3 times.!!!!!!! Now that really hurt me.

I also lost a family member this week.

This by far is my worst week in poker but it does not come close to real life
Hope it ends soon.

To keep things in perspective.

B.t.w The swings in the weekends are bigger but at the end you make more money.

But why is the question? And sorry for your loss.

I can't figure out why when I play solid poker the variance increases. I think more fish come to the pool - I mean, my style requires "some" knowledge of poker.

i find a similar effect at the plo8 tables. it's profitable if you play it right, but optimal play (at least for me) is very different on Friday/Saturday night and the rest of the time. one big thing is that i tend to be more selective with my pure bluffs, as anyone with any part of the board seems to be willing to call me down. that being said, these same fuucktards will call my monsters down also with any part of the board, so i don't try to be subtle with my bets... i just jam, jam, jam.

i'm not sure if this helps your SnG strategy, but i definitely share your frustration.

Thanks Kuso. I do well in the PLO8 SNGs when I play straightforward and simply "peddle the nuts". I feel that's the best way to win in general in PLO8. In cash games at PLO8, I've done ok so far, but it can get MIGHTY boring sitting around waiting for a good hand.
