What did I do wrong?

Postby SNGNOOB » Sat Mar 25, 2006 9:43 am

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (5 handed)

Hero (t2800)
BB (t5465)
UTG (t1215)
MP (t2270)
Button (t1750)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [Ac], [Qd].
3 folds, Hero raises to t600, BB calls t400.

Flop: (t1200) [5h], [Td], [Qh] (2 players)
Hero bets t1200, BB calls t1200.

Turn: (t3600) [Ah] (2 players)
Hero bets t1000 (All-In), BB calls t1000.

River: (t5600) [Ks] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: t5600

Results in white below:
Hero has Ac Qd (two pair, aces and queens).
BB has Kh 6h (flush, ace high).
Outcome: BB wins t5600.

Maybe I should've known he was on flush draw and folded on the turn?
Did I not raise enough preflop considering he was big stack?

You played the hand perfectly, IMO.

An argument could be made for simply pushing all-in on that flop. After your pre-flop raise you have 2200 chips left. The pot was 1200 and you bet the full pot. If you're going to bet full pot here, you're forced to go all-in on any turn card with your remaining 1000 chips. When the blinds are 100/200, you really don't want to end up with only 1000 chips.

I thought if he was on a flush draw(and he was), betting the full pot would be a "mistake" for him to call as opposed to an all in bet?

Escape has a point, but there really isn't anything wrong with the way you played it either. There is no possible way you can fold on that turn, once your pot sized bet got called so to push the remaining 1000 is basic.

If he's on a flush draw, it's a mistake to call a pot-bet or an all-in bet. The all-in bet is more likely to deter him since he has to risk more chips before seeing the result, like he did when he hit on the turn.

good play .

He made a mistake calling that bet no odds at all. You want to win big pots and you want to make them big. You want him to make a mistake and you want him to stay in the pot making mistakes.

Keep playing like that and you have the big stack more often and a chance to win. Only if you are pretty sure he will call the all in you should push.
Unlucky this time.
