What did I do wrong?

Postby FISH0621 » Wed Aug 10, 2005 12:48 pm

I am new to this forum and poker in general. Just started playing poker about 6 months ago. Anyway I wanna know what I did wrong in this hand. I think I overbet in a big way on the turn... and would like to know what else I did wrong.

15/30 NL..... 10 handed I have 89 suited in EP, seven players to see the flop, including BB who is all in $15

Pot is $115 and flop comes 9c, 5h, 7h... it checks to me and I bet $85....everyone folds to seat before me, who calls. the turn is a 6h.......... she checks to me and I bet $500, she folds. River is 4c... [9c, 5h, 7h, 6h, 4c]

BB was all in with 10h Kh and hit his flush $115
$70 dollars was all I won with the straight 5 to 9.... where did I go wrong? what should I have done differently??

Has to be a live game IMO... Plays like a .10/.20 online game.

Anyway... not only did you overbet the turn you did it on a flushed board. You're lucky Mr. Allin had the flush and not the other lady. In general you should slow down and try to get a sidepot with her while still giving her incorrect odds to draw for a flush.

p.s. If you're new to poker why play such a big game? If you're rich you'll just lose more money prefecting your game than you would at even a $2/$4 level which has good players.

I could be mistaken but i dont know of any online site or any live card rooms that spread 15/30NL.

Also, how is the pot $115 after 6 players paid $30 to see the flop and another is all in for $15. I count that as $195.

I smell a rat.

maybe its poker room, last i remember they listed 1/2 games as 2/4 because the turn bet was doubled. this could be 1500nl

anyways, the turn bet is very confusing, either you get called or raised (you lose the hand), or opponent folds a medium strength hand they may have called for less (you lose that money)

I don't know if this post is serious... it seems very off. Anyway...

Preflop
Dump that hand. You're in early position. If you're going to play it, raise (assuming you are first in).

Flop
You're betting a low Top Pair with no kicker and a gutshot draw into a pot with 6 opponents. That's probably not very +EV. I suggest check/folding to any real action instead.

Turn
There were 6 players that saw the flop, one called a big bet when there was a flush draw and a straight draw (for T8) out and you now bet TWICE the pot when BOTH the draws arrived. You're ONLY going to get called when you're beat so this bet is horrible.

Anyway... I'm thinking this is some sort of troll or joke post.

I probably didn't make it clear enough when I first posted. I apologize for that.

It was a SnG tournament on Empirepoker......Buy-in $5 with a $1 fee / NL holdem. Everyone started with 800 chips. hope this helps!

Table Table 12475 (Real Money) -- Seat 9 is the button

Seat 7: DirtyByrd0 (875)

Seat 9: GOLDFLUSH (2055)
Seat 10: TommyMetal33 (785)
TommyMetal33 posts small blind (10)
ksbRambo posts big blind (15)

everyone calls except seat 6 & 8
FLOP: [9c, 5h, 7h]
Seat 2 checks I bet out 85 and every1 else folds....... seat 2 calls my bet

TURN: [6h]
seat 2 checks, I bet 500... she folds

RIVER: [4c]

main pot 115 side pot 670....... SB won 115 and I won 70.

I assume I should've folded my hand pre-flop

Your other mistake is playing $5 + $1 SNG's. The 20% rake is way too much. Other sites have $5 + $.50.

Your OTHER other mistake is posting this under ring games when it was a SNG. You confused the **** out of everybody.
