I usually push all in too but I think a stop and go is a very effective tooll when you have enough chips to put in a real bet on the flop.
There are a few scenarios you could be in on the flop
1) You both hit - it doesn't matter, the money was going in anyway
2) You hit and he doesn't - he folds but you win the pot. You don't fully double up but at this point on the bubble, survival is much more important
3) He hits and you don't - once again, doesn't matter as the money was going in anyway
4) You both miss - if the flop is dangerous, you can get him to lay down the best hand like a pocket pair. If he misses too, he will have a hard time calling and if he does, you are a bigger favorite.
5) He hits small piece and you miss - you may still get him to fold. If the flop is QJ3 and he has A3, can he really call you?
I know you want to get chips but you have enough to cause him problems and hurt him. You may not fully double up like you would have if you pushed and won but by pulling a stop and go, you may win with an inferior hand that would have lost and gives you a better chance for surival on the bubble.
(ps. this isn't results oriented as i did say I like the stop and go before the results were posted. It would have worked this time, right?
